We arrived the morning on the 27th Dec and so had a delayed Christmas with our Aussie family. Kyan was completely spoilt! He had so many presents that I think everyone got a little bored of watching him open them. It was great though as most of his toys are on the container so now he has loads to play with until we get our stuff.
We were jet lagged for a few days but have gotten use to the time zone now. Kyan wasn’t too bad. He was going down at about midnight, stirring at 4am and then going til about 5:30am. A week later and he is off at about 8pm and sleeping through til 6-6:30am. He is sleeping well in the day as well. Amazing what a bit of heat and fresh air can do!
My mum and dad have a pool and Kyan just happens to be crazy about water. He is spending his days playing in the pool. In fact his routine at the moment is eat, sleep, swim, eat, sleep, swim etc. He is getting use to sunscreen. He screamed the first time we put it on him and rubbed it in his eyes (which has resulted in one red eye – slowly getting better). He doesn’t really like getting out of the water but he also got a water table toy for xmas so that seems to work. As long as he can splash about he is happy!
His appetite has increased. Kyan has always been a good eater but he is eating more and more everyday. And growing a lot quicker!! I know that sounds ridiculous, but his hair has gotten really long and thick in just a week! He loves mangos and eventually vegemite (Nannie kept giving it to him til he did!), and has discovered ice cream and ice blocks (ice lollies).
We haven’t looked into anything health wise yet (only been here just over a week!) but we have been to the chemist twice and doctors once already! Kyan had a bad cough before we left the UK (like every other child in the UK!) and had a dose of antibiotics. He still had it when we got here so I took him to the chemist to get some cough medicine. The lady was lovely and had a listen to him. She then quietly explained that they do not give children cough medicine in Australia until they are much older! Whoops. Bad mum award.
We were still concerned about this cough so went to the doctors to get his chest checked (you can never be too sure!). The doctor was lovely and listened to his chest. Kyan decided that he didn’t want anyone touching him so it was a bit of a struggle, but the doctor finally got a good listen and said he was fine. Just needed time to get over it. And it didn’t cost us a thing – something we were surprised at as we don’t have NHS here (that doctor will get to know us!).
Our next trip to the chemist was today as Kyan’s eye is still red. She said it was just irritated from the sunscreen and will clear up on its own. So different to the UK. In the UK they want to give you antibiotics and everything to clear anything up and over here it’s more of a ‘you’ll be right’ type attitude. That’s going to take Lauren and I some getting use to!!
Our days at the moment consist of swimming and walking. It has been very hot this week and is suppose to get to 42 degrees on Tuesday!! Luckily we have a pool and are close to the beach so we get a great coastal breeze. It’s very strange leaving the front door with Kyan just in a vest and shorts and walking out into a warmer temperature than inside. Our world really has been turned upside down. But we are loving it. Just tonight (yes evening) we went down the beach and had fish and chips and a swim. Kyan loved it. We walked home and he slept (in just a vest and shorts! In the evening!). This will take some getting use to!
